Now when you’re promoting your content, one of the best ways is going to be through Google and SEO, but keep in mind, position is everything, if you’re at the top, that’s where you get the majority of the clicks.

The better your site structure, the better your chance of ranking at the top on Google. And it really comes down to site structure as being a key important element when it comes to your content.

And when you are saying, hey, how do I get these sitelinks? Well, yeah, site structure popularity, but you don’t have to do anything with Google. If you follow everything I’m going to teach you in this lesson, it’ll naturally happen. Google automatically rewards websites with sitelinks, based on great site architecture, and, of course, popularity and high click-through rates.

So what are these sitelinks? What they are is a listing format that Google’s showing on their main page along with several other links. So they’ll show your main listing from your website with other internal pages.

Now, besides structure, there’s actually a lot more things that are important as well. With SEO, it comes down to a lot of factors. One of them is picking the right theme or topic.

So try to get as specific as possible, pick a theme or topic and stick with it.

So first off, you can use a tool, Think with Google, that’ll help you. You can look at different categories, sectors, they provide a ton of different data points, which will help you analyze any space, any sector.

Same with Google Trends, you can put in any category, website, and it’ll tell you popularity over time. There’s also cultural trends. And you can check those out at Think with Google as well. There’s also a customer insights. You can also see this at Think with Google.

So now that we got that away, let’s go really break down how you can rank number one on Google.

Well, first off, I want you to go to Ubersuggest and type in the keyword that you’re thinking about going after. Then from there, in the left hand navigation, I want you to click on Keyword Ideas. Then from there, I want you to find the keywords that you think are relevant to use, and you want to base this off volume, the bigger the volume, the better.

You also want to make sure your content is really thorough in length, the longer the better.

You also want to improve the readability, there’s an app called Hemingway app. It’ll help you with this.

You also want to include the keywords within your meta description tag, not just your title, but also your meta description.

You also want to improve your links, the more people linking to you, the better off you are. So I want you to go to Ubersuggest, and go to the backlinks report, type in your URL, and you’ll see all your new links and lost links.

If your layout isn’t good, you also rank well. So first off, for mobile devices, I consider using Accelerated Mobile Pages, that’s also known as AMP, A-M-P.

As for your website and security, make sure you’re using HTTPS. If you’re not on HTTPS, then people get a notification in the browser that your site isn’t secure and it’s going to hurt your rankings over time.

Now we got the basics covered, let’s go over how you can promote your content with $0 budget.

First off, leverage communities.

I also encourage sharing, like Spotify, a lot of people were using them and sharing the content on what they were listening to on Facebook, that grew them.

And to help encourage that word of mouth marketing, I recommend guest posting. You can go out there and guest posts on a lot of sites.

There’s also growth hacking. It’s that mindset of trying to grow and not just leveraging marketing, but leveraging anything.

Now, one thing that you’ll notice that I do on neilpatel.com is I do email newsletters, it’s a great way to get a ton of traffic from attention grabbing headlines to CTA to click and get people back over your site, to creating compelling reasons for people to click through.

There’s also Instagram content. If you have content, like I have blog post content or video content, I’ll share it on Instagram.

The easiest way to do this is by planning a series of experiences and you want to go from experience one to two to three to four and so forth so on and you don’t want to stop here.

So when you’re designing your customer’s experience, plan out a minimum of five steps. If you have at least five steps, there’s a good chance that you’ll hit on at least a few of them throughout the steps because not every step will be effective.

Some steps won’t work out as well as you would like. But by having multiple steps, not only will you be able to delight them, but you’ll make sure that they’re in surprise because they’re not going to expect everything that you’re going to be doing to knock their socks off.

If you can identify problems that others aren’t solving and then solve them, it can change peoples’ lives and that’s how you build a huge company and a brand that people love.

See, great businesses are built off of pain points and unmet needs. This is what it really looks like to have amazing brand. You have an idea of what you want to sell. People have an idea of what they want to buy. But that intersection is where amazing brands live. So what are the next steps for you? Well, you know the steps of SEO now. You know the power of branding and what you need to do to build a brand. I want you to start thinking about SEO and how you can implement it in your business.

By now, you should already be implementing some of the things, but I really want you to do more. Because if you do it more and you do it consistently, you’re going to see amazing results. And a lot of people just say, hey, maybe I should just do paid ads.

Well, I want to give you this scenario. If you invested 500,000 dollars in Google Ads versus investing 500,000 dollars in content marketing, AdWords yes can drive sales and if it’s profitable you should do it as long as possible, but the moment you stop spending money on ads, your sales stop as well.

But with content, you can keep getting leads. You can keep getting sales even after you stop spending money. That’s how SEO and content marketing have a much higher ROI in the long run.

And that’s why I think it’s the cheapest and most effective way to build a brand because everyone will constantly see it. In branding, the way I believe you build an amazing brand is what’s called the rule of seven. It’s when someone sees and interacts with your brand seven times, they’re much more likely to relate with it, be a loyal brand evangelist, and tell everyone about it.

And through content marketing, not just text-based content, it could be videos, it can be audio, podcasting, putting videos on social media, that’s how people can interact and engage with you and will help build you an everlasting brand.

It’s the same reason why I published over 8,200 blog posts. It’s because I want my brand to keep being out there not because I want to have the biggest name or some ego, it’s more so that brand is what’s helped me build a business and the bigger my brand gets, the bigger the business gets.

Now, if I had to do it over again, I wouldn’t name my brand after me Neil Patel. I would’ve done it like a product, like a Vitamin Water, because individual’s brand never makes as much money as a corporate brand. I don’t want you to reinvent the wheel, just do the fundamentals over and over again until you reach over a million visitors a month, specifically from SEO.

We went over how to supercharge your content. You want to be consistent in publishing. You want to do the link building. Yes, it requires work, but it is simple. The formula works and I’ve laid it all out for you. That’s how I built all my brands and businesses and it’s what’s led me to building a big business.

If you follow the steps, build a team like I have, you can get not just the same results, but you can also get better results.

How to Use Advanced Features in Google Analytics – Module 06 – Lesson 3 – SEO Unlocked

So the big problem that you may end up facing with Google Analytics now that you have it up and running is, “Hey, what are “the keywords that are driving traffic to me?” With paid advertising you’ll see them right away, but if you’re not using paid advertising, a lot of your organic and SEO traffic will show you “not provided,” and they ended up making this change in October 2011 to help protect users’ privacy.

And what you want to do is add a filter, and when you click add a filter you’ll go through and you want to end up putting Search term not provided, you’ll also want to end up putting Request URL and just copy it literally verbatim, and then Campaign Term you want to end up putting that.

In addition to that, another easy thing you can do is connect your Google Search Console account to your Google Analytics account and that’ll also start showing you data of all the keywords that people are finding you from when it comes to SEO standpoint.

Another problem that you’re going to be facing is dark traffic. So, when you look at your site you’ll probably see that maybe 20% of your traffic is direct. It shouldn’t be more than, let’s say 38, 40%, but in general what you’ll find is, if it’s too high and you’re not getting much traffic at all it could just be you going to your site a lot of times and that’ll be considered direct traffic.

So, what I want you to do is create a new segment and click on Add Segment and then from there click on New Segment, and what I want you to do is click on Traffic Sources, contains direct, and then I want you to add a condition in which you say is none of and it’s pretty much not your homepage.

You also want to use that data to make informed decisions. And I’ll break in a bit on how to find more data within Google Analytics so you can make informed decisions, but it’s super important because within your organization or your company, look we as individuals, even me, we don’t know everything.

So within your Google Analytics you can click that small dropdown arrow and you can start adding annotations. You’ll also see on the right side there’s a little blue link that says Create new annotation.

In your navigation you want to go to Behavior, Site Content, and All Pages, and this will show you when you see spikes what pages are doing the best over time, and those are more of the pages that you want to create, especially if they’re driving sales, leads, and conversions. You can do the same thing with your landing pages.

I also want you to check your social media traffic. What social channels are driving you consistent traffic, and also look at the goal completion from those social channels because now you can see which ones are also driving revenue.

I also want you to check out your campaigns if you’re doing pay-per click traffic or any ads, and when you go under Campaigns in your left navigation, or Acquisition, Google Ads, Campaigns, you can quickly see if it’s working or if it’s not. Now, one thing to note here is we typically see the conversions, the numbers that you see in this report, not always match up 100% with your database.

You want to do more of what’s working and less of what’s not. And the other thing that you want to end up doing is track that over time because once you make those changes within Search Console, usually within 30 days you can see if you’re getting better results from it or if you’re not.

Today is another day of SEO Unlocked. Today is one of my favorite days because we cover Google Search Console. If you haven’t used Search Console, make sure yo go to Google Search Console. You can just google it. And once you go there, it breaks down step by step on how to set it up.

The first thing I want you to do is go and check out your crawl errors report. Now if you already have Google Search Console set up, you’ll start seeing data right away. If you don’t, it may take a day or two or a few days to start seeing data. They crawl your website and they tell you if there’s any important errors that there are crawler, right. This is Google’s algorithm.

And when you look at your crawl errors report it will tell you what pages there’s issues and it breaks it down step by step on how to fix it and once you fix them, you want to click validate fix because that tells Google, “Hey, I fixed it. “You should come back to my website, crawl again” and then double check because if everything is good, “make sure this page is ranking high, everyone can see it,” and they usually validate it. Sometimes it can take up to a week, sometimes two weeks but they’re pretty quick about it.

When they crawl your website, in most cases with the errors that they show most of them are going to be 404 related and that’s what we tend to see with a lot of our clients, so you don’t have to worry too much let’s go over each of the main 404 errors that you could be getting and which ones you need to fix.

So the first thing you need to do is look at, hey is there a page on your website that you deleted? If there’s a page on your website that you deleted that had a lot of links people are going to it, you may want to 301 redirect that. If it’s just a bad URL generated by a script or never existed, it’s usually not a problem that you need to worry about.

And if there are, remove them because they shouldn’t be there. If there’s misspelled links coming to your website and someone linked to the wrong URL, just make sure you 301 redirect those to the right URL so that way it helps your rankings.

The most errors like I said are typically like just bots putting in random URLs into your website and somehow Google finds them. So for those just ignore them and you don’t really needa fix most of them but the ones where it’s a link pointing to a wrong URL or you had a page and then you deleted it or you’re linking to a page that never really existed, those kind of 404 errors you needa fix.

Next I want you to submit your sitemap into Google Search Console. If you don’t have a sitemap you can use the Yoast SEO plug-in or Rank Math or you can just Google XML sitemap generator and there’s a lot of free tools out there that’ll help you generate a sitemap and then you go click on sitemaps within Google Search Console and then you submit it. It walks you through how to do it step-by-step.

Then you need to look at your internal links on your website. Make sure that hey these are the top link pages that you’re linking to internally.

You also want to look at the top link pages that other people are linking to you because you want to see if that aligns with what you’re linking to and what other people are linked to because there could be a disconnect, right.

You also want to make sure that you’re using Breadcrumbs and Schema markup.

There’s also the Schema- All In One Schema Rich Snippets. If you’re also using the Yoast SEO plug-in or Rank Math plugin for WordPress, they do a lot of this as well.

I also recommend that use accelerated mobile pages. In countries like the United States it doesn’t help increase traffic by much but in regions like Brazil and India we’ve seen that it increases traffic at least from mobile devices because a lot of these regions don’t have as fast internet connection as you know maybe Australia or Canada.

The next plug-in I want you to use is a Lazy Load plugin. When you view a webpage and a page has 100 images or 20 images or 10 images, you’re not viewing them all at once.

You’re scrolling and as you’re scrolling, you’re seeing more images.
